Senior Creative Designer – Full Service Agency – Hove – circa £35K DOE

Established Creative Agency based in Hove is looking for a Senior Designer withy agency experience to join their team and be part of the planned growth for 2019/20

The agency provides digital, print and advertising as well as exhibition and event services to its client portfolio.

The creative output is first class and through the work the client base and client briefs consistently grow, hence an additional senior designer is needed.

You will be a talented and self-driven designer with an agency background and will have a thorough understanding of what makes effective communications, getting under the skin of a brief and having the ability to find engaging and relevant solutions to problems. You will also be confident and credible in front of clients and be able to brief and manage the more junior designers in the studio.

Core Purpose

Responsible for ensuring that creative concepts, designs and artwork are completed on brief, on budget and on time, with the support of the project team. Responsible for developing conceptual thinking and ideation on projects, as well as mentoring, utilising and supporting the studio team effectively.

Management/ responsibilities

To support the Creative Director (and in turn the MD) in delivering the overall creative output in the studio

Work with account management to help to ensure the parameters and objectives are clear on new creative projects

Distil project requirements into tasks and workload for junior team members

Check and proof other team members work prior to presenting to clients or supplying for final output

Help to ensure studio deadlines and commitments are delivered accurately and on schedule

To understand, subscribe to and apply the agency’s standards and approach to all projects

Ensure a clear understanding of personal deadlines, managing your time and workload to ensure these are met


To deliver creative concepts and presentations confidently and eloquently to clients and at pitches with a high level of reasoning

To present work and thinking internally to the studio team and account team

To rationalise and clearly explain decisions and thinking when discussing or providing files to account handlers or line management

To take personal responsibility for having a clear understanding of all the elements of a brief, and what is required of you, and to seek clarity if this isn’t the case

To document all time spent on work and check-in on progress at timely intervals or when asked

Communicate any concerns around your ability to meet agreed requirements or deadlines in a clear, timely and proactive manner


To mentor designers and colleagues

Provide direction and feedback to other team members

Brief copywriters, animators, cameramen, brief and art direct photography / video / animation / install / production with confidence


Able to process client objectives and requirements, responding to them with compelling, memorable conceptual thinking and responses

Push boundaries, employing appropriate trends and mediums whilst remaining mindful of budgets and deadlines

Seek to explore multiple angles and approaches to enable the development of clear and distinct conceptual routes


Take creative concepts and develop to the next stage to produce credible, creative designs based on an understanding of the audience(s) and objectives

To assist other colleagues in the development of concepts and design elements as well as branding and marketing assets

Consistently apply branding and messaging across a range of online and offline touchpoints

Read and ensure you have a full understanding of the supplied client content so that you are able to consider how it may affect the design


Approval of final artwork before it leaves the agency

To develop design guidelines and robust, accurate design templates based on agreed designs

Accurate action of client amends and feedback

Ability to work to client corporate guidelines

Take responsibility for checking and proofing work prior to presenting to clients or final output

Demonstrate a meticulous eye for typography, layout, grids, consistency and all other aspects of artworking

Carry out all appropriate repro and preflight checks in line with supplier specifications

Setup of artwork in line with established industry and agency standards

Understand and clearly document artwork set up for the benefit of printers, developers and suppliers, as well as conveying this to the appropriate account manager

Use established agency digital working practices when naming, filing and formatting files

Ensure a full understanding and competence in using the appropriate agency software packages and tools
